The Economic Development Administration (EDA) U.S. Department of Commerce designated the Lake Agassiz Region an Economic Development District in 1975 and provided funds to prepare an Overall Economic Development Program for the region. LARC maintains the Economic Development District designation today, and with annual planning grants from EDA, assists local governments with development plans and programs and is the coordinating entity for the regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. LARC also assists local governments with grant applications and administration of infrastructure development projects, including industrial site and park development and industrial buildings.
