RC & D is a unique partnership between the Federal Government and communities. Administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the program helps people improve their quality of life and the natural resources in a way that will improve the area's economy, environment, and living standards. It provides a way for local people to initiate, sponsor, plan, and implement projects that will make their area a better place to live.
The Lake Agassiz RC&D program area includes the counties of Cass, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Steele and Traill. These counties, along with assistance provided by a USDA/NRCS coordinator, offer expertise to coordinate the efforts of local communities in the region with private and public organizations to help carry on project activities. The result is the implementation of needed projects that benefit land conservation, water management, community development, and environmental concerns throughout the Lake Agassiz RC&D area.
